Because it can change the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the lungs, hyperventilation may result in other symptoms, including dizziness, a racing heart, numbness or tingling, and even the feeling that one is having a heart attack.
These symptoms, which are similar to, and in many cases may be caused by anxiety and panic, will subside once breathing is brought back under control.
